Victor Hugo said that Mont Saint Michel, Brittany's most famous landmark, "…is to the ocean what the Cheops Pyramid is to the desert… a masterpiece of nature and art."
A scenic motorcoach drive of almost three hours brings you to Mont Saint Michel -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site -- to see for yourself this spectacular fusion of construction and erosion.
Board a shuttle to cross the causeway that keeps the mainland and most things modern at bay. You will be entering an entirely different world to follow in the footsteps of the hundreds of thousands of ancient and modern pilgrims who have visited before you.
Explore Mont Saint Michel on foot. Your guide will lead you through the narrow streets of the medieval village and up the steep path to the abbey. The abbey is the result of visionary architectural design and passionate attention to detail. The monastery was founded in the 10th century, while the Merveille (the Gothic section) was added three centuries later.
After your guided tour, you will have 45 minutes of free time for independent sightseeing and shopping.
The drive back returns you directly to Cherbourg.
Notes:
Logistics for coach parking are still in progress and cannot be exactly defined until closer to the sail date. Participants should anticipate that the coach parking area may be somewhat distant from the Mont, requiring a shuttle transfer to the site. Travel time from the parking area to the Mont could take as much as one hour each way. Travel time from Cherbourg to Mont Saint Michel is approximately 2.75 hours each way. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
