Tener duende is a Spanish term describing the heightened state of emotion and expression associated with the vibrance of brilliantly executed Flamenco dancing. Although it is said that this state cannot be taught, you may find it naturally with the dance moves and steps you'll learn today under the guidance of your excellent bailaor (tutor).
Walk 15 minutes from the pier to an atmospheric tablão-taverna that serves as your dance school. On the way, your knowledgeable guide relates Flamenco's history and origins. Much of what we know about the art comes from stories and legends passed down through families, in the same way the Flamenco song is handed down.
After polishing your Flamenco moves, enjoy some tasty aperitives with sherry to ensure that your experience is authentically Andalusian.
Notes:
Flamenco is strenuous; participants must be in excellent physical condition. Wear loose clothing or athletic wear and comfortable shoes. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
