This panoramic drive through the city will introduce you to the many and varied features of Northern Ireland's largest city -- its industry and elegance, a rich and varied past, and 19th-century buildings that tell of its prosperous heyday.
See the Grand Opera House and the Albert Memorial before passing Queen's University and the Botanic Gardens. The Palm House, an elegant structure of cast iron and curved glass panels, is located in these gardens.
You will drive past Belfast City Hall -- an impressive building with a 300-foot-long façade of Portland stone. Pause here to photograph what is perhaps the most noteworthy of the statues on the grounds -- a marble figure of Thane on a granite pedestal. Sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock, this figure commemorates the 1912 sinking of the ill-fated Belfast-built ocean liner Titanic.
Travel a short distance outside the city to see Stormont, seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly and a symbol of progress from Northern Ireland's troubled past.
From Cave Hill, you will view Belfast Castle, one of the most celebrated landmarks of the city. It boasts beautiful gardens and an adjoining country park. Don't miss the splendid panorama of Belfast Lough and the city below you.
