Join this walking tour to experience Friluftsliv. What is Friluftsliv, and how does one do it? Follow your guide and all will be revealed.
Norwegians are very familiar with, and proud of, their Friluftsliv. It's a difficult concept to pinpoint in the English language, but is perhaps best defined as a zest for the outdoors. It is definitely a matter of National Identity, and evokes a sense of belonging and pride in the Norwegian people. Today, it's your turn to find your own Friluftsliv, and where better to look than in and around Bodø? Few, if any, major cities can boast having the wilderness so close at hand. Bodø is like a green lung on perhaps the world’s most beautiful coastline.
Just outside the city center, the Bodø Peninsula is clad in vividly green nature and majestic mountains and is surrounded by a deep blue sea. In the company of your guide, follow one of the many paths designed to stimulate all the senses and provide peaceful inspiration in both summer and winter. Along the way, you will pass many cultural treasures, including Viking graves, a World War II prison camp, and an outdoor costal museum -- a memorable experience indeed.
A recent study has shown that 92% of the population use the Bodø countryside during the summer – this far exceeds the average in Norway and proves that the local strain of Friluftsliv is highly contagious!
