A panoramic drive brings you to Engen, located on the southwest coast of Bodø. The coastline along the way is indented with numerous picturesque fjords.
Along the way you'll hear about the abundance of fish found in these icy waters -- cod, saithe, wolf fish and halibut.
Svartisen, an arctic glacier, lies just north of the Arctic Circle. Oddly, it is locally known as the Black Ice Glacier, even though there is no black ice anywhere in sight, and is Norway's second largest. It is just 65 feet above sea level and is also the lowest glacier in mainland Europe, which makes it easily accessible for hikers seeking nature-based experiences.
A delicious lunch served nearby offers a taste of Norway; then, you will return to Bodø .
Notes:
Ice walking/climbing is not included; nor is it recommended. For your own and others' safety, please do not climb onto the glacier. Dress warmly in layers. Bring a hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes.
