A great way to enjoy the real beauty of the Norwegian scenery is to sit back, relax and watch the world go by. This spectacular scenic drive takes you along Romsdalsfjord, which melds into Innfjord. The road follows the shoreline through several villages to Tresfjord for a photo stop.
Head up the Skorge Valley to Ørskogfjellet Mountain Plateau.
Descend to Storfjord and across a mountain pass to Norddalsfjord and the village of Valldal. Pause for photos at the magnificent Gudbrand Gorge, with its foaming waterfall deep below.
You'll enter the mountain world as you arrive at Trollstigheimen and descend the famous Trollstig Road -- a series of 11 startling hairpin bends leading to the valley below. Don't miss the Troll Wall -- the tallest vertical mountain wall in Europe. From here, you'll reach the small, fertile agricultural plain around Åndalsnes.
A Norwegian buffet lunch is served during your travels, featuring both hot and cold dishes and a choice of a low-alcohol beer or a soft drink.
Notes:
There is an optional walk to the viewpoint at Trollstigheimen, which includes approximately 138 steps. Bring local currency (kroner), as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. The drive passes through several tunnels. This tour also operates from Alesund.
