Here's your chance to stretch your legs and hike up Mount Komsa -- a hike of moderate intensity. Sitting across Bukta Harbor from the cruise ship pier, Mount Komsa is the site where traces of 10,000-year-old human settlements have been found. The finds are mainly kept at the History Museum in Oslo and have given rise to the term 'Komsa Culture'. Transfer to the foot of Mount Komsa, where your guided hike to the summit will commence. The path is a well-trodden nature trail, almost a mile each way. Weather permitting, you will have spectacular view over central Alta, Altafjord, and your ship at the pier. Your guide will talk about the nature and history of Mount Komsa and Alta and, during a welcome break, coffee or tea will be served. Taste nistepakke -- a Norwegian snack -- before you descend via the same hiking path, and board the coach for the short transfer back to the pier.
Notes:
This tour requires considerable activity, walking approximately 1.5 hours for a total of 1.8 miles to an elevation of 700 feet. Suitable only for those guests who are physically fit and experienced at hiking. Minimum age is 14 years. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Bring bottled water.
