Ålesund boasts a beautiful setting, built across several islands stretching out into the ocean. A large part of the city was destroyed by fire in 1904 and rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, typical of the first decade of the 20th century. The surrounding scenery is spectacular, and you will see one of the gems of the fjords near Ålesund on a leisurely cruise along Hjørundfjord.
It's a short walk to a sightseeing boat. At 20 miles long, Hjørundfjord is considered one of the most magnificent in Norway. Relax on board and marvel at the wonderful views as many mountain peaks surround you, rising from the fjord to more than 5,000 feet.
Your cruise continues through Vegsundet and Borgundfjord back to Ålesund, where a short walk brings you back to the ship.
Notes:
Limited walking is required. Participants must be able to negotiate the gangway to board the boat, which may be steep. There are 12 stair steps to reach the outside deck of the boat. While there is sufficient seating for everyone on the boat, seats are occupied on a first-come, first-served either inside or on the open deck.
