Ålesund is one of the few Art Nouveau towns left in the world. This lovely and unique coastal city can best be enjoyed on foot.
A knowledgeable guide will escort you through the winding streets, pointing out the many colorful details of the buildings. You will soon discover some interesting details about the buildings and the town's history. A catastrophic fire in 1904 left the town in ashes and 10,000 people homeless. The city was rebuilt in Art Nouveau or Jugend style with provisions and building materials from all over Europe.
Visit the Art Nouveau Style Center for a fascinating insight into Art Nouveau through authentic interiors and objects and a captivating multimedia program called The Time Machine. You can experience the city fire via film, photographs, and impressive sound and light effects.
