This culture-centric tour is for those interested in Iceland’s history, culture and Viking heritage.
Take a scenic drive west on the Troll Peninsula to Skagafjörður Fjord and visit the Glaumbær Turf Museum. Glaumbær has been a farm since early settlement, and the oldest farmhouses have been preserved as they were in the mid-18th century. Step back in time and see how people lived in Iceland then.
In the town of Sauðárkrókur, check out the 1238: The Battle of Iceland exhibition. This interactive and immersive historical experience places you in the middle of a Viking battle and invites you to take part in Iceland’s history through virtual reality. Go ahead and fight alongside the Vikings. How did you do?
Enjoy refreshments at Grána Bistro before heading back to Akureyri.
Notes:
The tour requires approximately 45 minutes of walking. The terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and steps.
