Step back in time 100 years to when North American entrepreneur Benjamin Johnston founded the city of Los Mochis. He built the largest sugarcane empire on the American continent right here in Topolobampo.
Tour Johnston's private gardens (now Sinaloa Park), designed by the same architect that built the movie sets and landscapes for Gone with the Wind.
The colonial town of El Fuerte was founded in 1564 by Spanish conquistadors. According to local lore, this is where Diego de La Vega, better known as Zorro, was born. His statue, made with 220 pounds of gold, stands in the old mansion museum at the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo.
Enjoy a barbecue buffet-style lunch and tap your feet to some colorful Mexican folkloric dances.
Walk with your guide to see the picturesque colonial plaza, the governor's palace, a historical church and 18th-century mansions.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring insect repellent.
