The area surrounding Los Mochis is one of the most important productive farming areas in Mexico -- home to major crops, cotton, rice, and flowers. Travel back in time to the historic village of Ahome for a taste of the region.
This engaging half-day tour begins with a picturesque panoramic drive through the town of Los Mochis. Originally founded in 1893 by the American socialist Albert Owen, the city gained recognition in 1901 when a sugar mill was built. It grew to become the largest sugarcane area on the American continent.
Visit the grounds of Parque Sinaloa -- once a part of the palatial estate of US sugar baron Benjamin Johnston. This 35-acre garden is home to a vast array of exotic plants from India, Africa, and Australia.
Continue past lush farm fields of tomatoes, peppers and corn en route to the La Carambola Hacienda mango plantation. Warm weather, rich soil and an ample water supply combine to make Los Mochis one of Mexico’s largest producers of mangoes. Tour the plantation and learn how this sweet, juicy fruit was brought here in the 17th century. Enjoy mango ice cream and mango juice, and sample authentic Mexican staples such as corn tortillas with beans and cheese. Try artisan bread made in an old-world-style brick oven right there at the hacienda.
Travel to the Regional Museum for an in-depth look at the area’s history and the men who founded the city.
Relax on the transportation for the trip back to Topolobampo.
