This great outing introduces you to the warm Sea of Cortez and explains La Paz's pivot from pearling to tourism. You will see for yourself evidence of the resulting recovery of biodiversity.
A brief drive brings you to the Pearl Museum.
As you put on snorkel gear, you may observe staff working in the revovery of culitvated pearls. The pearl industry in the Sea of Cortez is what brought many investors to La Paz in the 19th century.
Head to the beach with your guide, and snorkel out to the Coral Garden -- like a coral farm -- to see regenerated, recovered corals growing in tidy rows and swaying to a rhythm that only they can hear. Once the corals mature, they are transplanted to growing, thriving reefs in the Sea of Cortez.
Notes:
Snorkel gear and bottled water are provided. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen (no other kind is allowed), light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Bring aqua shoes. Maximum weight is 260 lbs. Maximum age is 75 years. Guests who are pregnant or have a heart, respiratory, back or neck condition, recent surgery, epilepsy or diabetes are not allowed to participate. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed.
