Indulge in the unhurried charms of carefree La Paz with an easy-going sightseeing tour that showcases local places of interest. A 12-mile ride brings you to the capital of Baja California Sur.
Step inside the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace, known locally as the Cathedral de Nuestra Senora de la Paz. Completed in 1865 atop the ruins of a 140-year-old Jesuit mission, the cathedral's stone exterior features two bell towers and a small angel carved in stone above the front entrance. Inside, you'll find several beautiful stained-glass windows and a colorful sculpture of the Virgin Mary with the infant.
Nearby is the mile-long Malecón walkway -- perfect for a seaside stroll and a chance to visit the Artisan Center. Pursue your passion for wooden handicrafts, decorative pottery, hand-painted tiles, seashells, and cactus-wood art and more as you shop for arts and crafts here.
The scenic route along the coast and through quaint villages returns you to La Paz.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, inclines and two to three steps at each venue. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Air-conditioning standards in Mexico differ from those to which you may be accustomed. Collapsible wheelchairs can be accommodated.
