Mexico boasts the widest variety of reptiles of any country in the world. Travel 30 minutes by air-conditioned van to the El Serpentario Reptile & Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where your naturalist guide shares local knowledge of the residents. You will have free time here to explore at your leisure.
At the Serpentarium, you will find an outstanding collection of the four major classes of reptiles -- snakes, lizards, turtles/tortoises and crocodiles. While the primary goal is to rehabilitate and rescue local wildlife, it also educates humans about local fauna with many fascinating reptiles from all over the world. A collection of spiders, scorpions, centipedes and other arthropods make their home at the Serpentarium.
Many exhibits are outdoors in pits landscaped with plants and cacti from the region. Reptile encounters and a live show allow you to touch harmless specimens and talk with the friendly experts caring for them.
