Today's tour introduces the city of Guaymas -- a natural port founded in 1703.
Visit the Sea of Cortez Pearl Farm -- first of its kind on the American continent and the only one in the world that grows loose cultured pearls using the rainbow-lipped pearl oyster. These pearls are some of the finest and rarest due to their unusual color and limited annual production. Hear a detailed explanation of this process as you walk through the facility. Finished pearl products are available for purchase at the gift shop.
Step inside San Fernando Church, dedicated to San Fernando III, King of Castilla and Leon.
You'll also stop in Plaza 13 de Julio, named for Mexico's triumph against the French in 1854.
Watch for City Hall and Tres Presidentes Plaza. You will visit Fisherman's Plaza and Gun Plaza -- all important landmarks to the people of Guaymas.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour requires walking about 3 - 4 city blocks. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
