Follow the breathtaking route that inspired British author and playwright George Bernard Shaw to write, "I have heard that the road to Cetinje via Kotor is one of the most beautiful in the world, and that is the reason I have come." This is a great opportunity to combine off-road fun with seaside and mountain scenery, and many microclimates, all in one day.
Set out from Boka Bay and the town of Kotor, taking the old serpentine road with its 25 bends and stunning bay views. Pass the peak of Mt Lovcen -- a National Park of significant historical importance -- before arriving at Krstac.
Heading off-road, you'll continue to Dolovi. Time seems to have stood still in this authentic Montenegrin village that has changed little over the centuries.
Back on the main road, you'll reach the valley of Ivanova Korita, 4,200 feet above sea level and notable for the clear, pure streams that flow from nearby Mt Trestenik. The village of Njegusi situated here is recognized for preserving folk architecture and upholding traditional Montenegrin cuisine. This is where you'll find farms that make amazing sir and prsut (cheeses and prosciutto) -- staples of the local diet. A taste of this fresh local fare will have you hooked.
Your journey will end in Kotor, taking the same serpentine road back to town.
