Here's a leisurely and pleasant way to discover by coach Trieste and its surrounding sights.
You'll head straight to Piazza Unitá d'Italia -- the main square of Trieste and one of the largest in Europe -- to take photos of its most important buildings. Beautiful architecture evokes several bygone eras so that the various façades essentially chronicle the story of Trieste.
Continue your panoramic drive past the Roman Theatre, the Greek Orthodox Church and the Ponte Rosso Canal on your way to the top of St Giusto Hill. Admire the cathedral of the same name here.
A coastal road lined with white cliffs plunging into the sea takes you past glistening coves and pretty beaches. You'll pass the Castle of Miramare -- a small fortress built on a rocky spur that drops into the sea.
Continue to the Karst headland -- a vast, 150-square-mile territory whose geology consists primarily of limestone. When rain falls, sinkholes are formed in the rock, so the area is dotted with caves and caverns that are quite dramatic. Photo stops along the way allow you to admire wonderful views over Trieste and its gulf.
Notes:
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Trieste. This tour cannot be combined with Airport or Hotel Transfers. Very little walking is required; however, participants must negotiate steps to (dis)embark the coach.
