Enjoy an introduction to Trieste's most popular highlights and explore the magnificent 19th-century Miramare Castle.
Travel by coach along the Riviera Barcola to Miramare Castle. Designed in the late 19th century by architect Carl Junker, the estate served as a residence for Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlotta.
Next is a journey to Colle Capitolino and the Hill of St Giusto. Here, you will visit the magnificent St Giusto Cathedral -- a significant symbol of the Christian community since the 5th century. Admire commanding views of the city and the old castle of St Giusto from this hilltop vantage point.
In the very heart of Trieste, a guided walk through the city will take you past the Greek Orthodox Church of San Nicolò, the Galleria del Tergesteo, the Piazza Borsa and the former Jewish Ghetto. This pleasant stroll brings you to the Teatro Verdi, the Café Tommaseo and the famous Roman Theatre. Built between the 1st and 2nd centuries, the impressive theatre once accommodated 6,000 spectators.
Piazza Unita d'Italia is Italy's largest square overlooking the sea. Flanked by City Hall, government offices and the Lloyd Triestino Building, the square serves as both a picturesque gathering place and the civic center.
Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
