Leaving Taormina, you'll head deep into the Sicilian countryside for a genuine taste of the 'real Sicily'.
The Murgo cellars were founded in 1860 when Senator Luigi Gravina gave the Scammacca family about 30 hectares of vineyard on Etna where, today, the San Michele estate stands.
More than a hundred years later but on the same land, Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo begins the process of converting the land into the modern farm that is now the heart of our business.
His vision is to exploit the potential of the Etna area which enjoys a microclimate and a soil of volcanic origin ideal for growing grapes. These are fundamental elements to transfer their unique expression to our wines, thanks also to a viticulture attentive to respect for the plant. Fortuitously, it lies in the heart of the DOC Etna and Etna Bianco Superiore appellation zone. The volcanic soils and the typical mountain climate create a unique terroir, allowing the production of wines with moderate alcohol content, rich in fixed acidity and extracts. The red wines are stylish and firm, while the whites are long and structured, and have a delicate bouquet.
The owners of Murgo Winery warmly welcome you and take great pleasure in showing you the old cellar, followed by a wonderful wine tasting session accompanied by a delicious sample of typical Sicilian products.
