Perfectly positioned between the sea and the mountains, the Toulon Cable Car transports you from the upper town of Toulon to the summit of Mount Faron at 1,640 feet in elevation. It also transports you from the everyday to the extraordinary, as the top station affords an exceptional panoramic view of Toulon Bay. The sweeping panorama encompasses an arc from Porquerolles to the bec de l'aigle (eagle's beak) in La Ciotat. As you ride the newly-renovated cable car to the top, your guide will answer all your questions and will acquaint you with the sights before you.
Atop Mt Faron, walk to the Landing Museum, housed the Beaumont Tower and devoted to the landing of the Allied troops and the liberation of Provence during the summer of 1944. The museum was inaugurated by General de Gaulle in 1964 to honor the men and women engaged in the operations of that fateful time. Exhibits include films, an audiovisual, and a series of documents and objects commemorating this key part of the modern history of Provence -- an extraordinary story worth examining.
Take in another magnificent view of the bay before returning to sea level and the ship.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
