This option offers the wine consseur and insite to the local production and varieties.
The first establishment is 'Karavitakis' estate. Continuing the family's legacy for 80 years with the creation of a boutique winery in Pontikiana Village in Chania, Crete. The estate consists of 150 acres of vineyards both private and contracted ones with carefully selected terroirs for each and every variety. Wines are not only produced by local grape varietals, but also international as the family experiment with rare varieties from around the world. The winery features modern equipment, 2 winetasting areas and a small church is nestled between beautiful vineyards and olive groves on the hilltops of Kolimbari area, just 30 minutes out of Chania.
Second stop is Manousakis Wines. Over the millennia, the Lefka Ori mountain range of western Crete has re-absorbed the quiet cycle of life for thousands of the islands wild flowers and herbs. Walking over the foothills, one’s senses are intoxicated with the aromas of rosemary, thyme, marjoram, sage, lavender and chamomile. Each spring, these unique plants come to life, cover the hills with their beds of flowers and fill the air with their unique aromas; in the fall they die and fall back to the earth to be reabsorbed by the soil; and so, continues the cycle.
The philosophy of Manousakis Winery is simple; carefully and organically cultivated vines allow them to absorb these unique aromas and essence of the terroir, filling the grape clusters with their unique character, thus capturing and preserving the incredible Lefka Ori of Crete in each bottle.
