Drive from Port Said to Cairo across the desert, learning about Egypt as you travel. It is about 3½ hours by motor coach to the capital city and, when you arrive, you will proceed to the Pyramids of Giza—sole survivor among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You will see all three major pyramids, built by the Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus—three generations of the same family—as the eternal resting place for their mummified bodies. Your Egyptologist guide will share fact and fiction with you as you continue to the Sphinx to see the lion body of this mythical creature crouching in the desert. Proceed to the River Nile to board a riverboat which doubles as one of Egypt’s finest restaurants. After lunch on the Nile, relax for the motor coach ride back to Port Said.
Notes:
Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. The riverboat lunch cruise travels through the city of Cairo and is limited to city sights. If time permits, independent entrance to the pyramid may be possible (at your own expense), but it is not recommended for those who suffer from claustrophobia or heart and respiratory conditions. It is very hot and stuffy inside the pyramid and you must be able to bend over and crouch down at times while you are inside.
