Leave the harbor and drive to the old city of Silves, captured from the Moors during the re-conquest of the peninsula.
First, visit the Archaeological Museum of Silves with collections from pre-history including both Roman and Moorish periods.
Then, walk to the old city of Silves to visit the impressive Moorish castle and view the outside of the partly-Gothic cathedral, originally built by King Alfonso X of Castille. On the way back, you will have the opportunity to see the 16th-century cross of Portugal.
Notes:
The Archaeological Museum is closed on Sundays and holidays; additional free time in Silves will be substituted.
