Take a short panoramic drive through central Palermo with its magnificent monuments.
Villa Malfitano is an urban oasis with a luxuriant garden. The villa, constructed in the late 19th century by the archaeologist and botanist Joseph Isaac Whitaker, is surrounded by plants from all over the world. A marvelous variety of tropical shrubs and trees includes many rare species from Tunisia, Sumatra, Australia and South America.
The Villa Giulia Botanic Gardens were founded in 1875 -- a project by Leon Dufourny and Venanzio Marvuglia. Thanks to their rich and abundant examples derived from various vegetation types, these botanic gardens rank among the most interesting in Europe. As you wander about this magical setting, you’ll discover that the flora here originates from all around the world.
