Step into the ambience of old Portugal and the culture surrounding Port wine with this visit to an ancient Port wine cellar.
Upon arrival at the cellar, take a glass of Port wine to immediately connect with the traditions of the Douro region. Interpretive panels lining the room showcase the most significant and iconic aspects of it. Local handicrafts are also on display and are available for purchase.
The highlight of your visit will be exposure to the aspect of local folklore known as Fado. UNESCO has placed Fado on its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity treasures, and today's show is performed by the voices of some of the city's greatest singers.
You will also enjoy some tapas, prepared especially for you to showcase the gastronomic highlights of Portugal -- codfish 'cookies', sardines, chickpea salad, typical sausage, ham, cheese, bread and olives. Enjoy a glass of red or white Douro wine with your tapas.
