Approximately 9½ Hours
Your tour begins from Naples, with a 30-minute motorcoach ride to the ruins at Pompeii. Here, you'll discover the archeological excavations of a lost city buried deep beneath ash when Mt Vesuvius violently erupted in AD 79. Explore the excavated ruins on a two-hour guided walking tour. Your guide eloquently interprets remains of the remarkably-preserved city, and how its long-gone, aristocratic inhabitants lived lavishly and entertained unstintingly. You will see the forum, amphitheater, gymnasium, shops and an aqueduct that delivered water for irrigation, fountains and private baths. Detailed mosaics and frescoes adorn the interiors of some villas.
You'll have an elegant lunch here or on the Amalfi Coast, with Prosecco sparkling wine and a delicious four-course meal.
Re-board the transportation to Positano -- a picture-perfect town built into a sheer cliff. The tiers of whitewashed houses that cling to the rocky face are often the subject postcards and dazzling photos. Once a major trading port in the Middle Ages, today Positano is a sophisticated retreat for discerning visitors, filled with boutiques, beach shops, fine restaurants and cafes. Enjoy a leisurely hour to explore the town or shop for souvenirs.
