Your tour begins with a 30-minute motorcoach ride to the ruins at Pompeii. Here, you'll discover the archeological excavations of a lost city buried deep beneath ash when Mt Vesuvius violently erupted in AD 79. Explore the excavated ruins on a two-hour guided walking tour. Your guide eloquently interprets the remains of the remarkably preserved city and how its long-gone, aristocratic inhabitants lived lavishly and entertained unstintingly. You will see the forum, amphitheater, gymnasium, shops, and an aqueduct that delivered water for irrigation, fountains and private baths. Detailed mosaics and frescoes adorn the interiors of some villas.
You'll have an elegant lunch here or on the Amalfi Coast with Prosecco sparkling wine and a delicious four-course meal.
Reboard the transportation to Positano, a picture-perfect town built into a sheer cliff. The tiers of whitewashed houses that cling to the rocky face are often the subject of postcards and dazzling photos. Once a major trading port in the Middle Ages, Positano is today a sophisticated retreat for discerning visitors. Enjoy a leisurely hour to explore the boutiques and beach shops.
Notes:
The route is winding and bumpy; guests who suffer from motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication.
