Travel to the foot of Mt Vesuvius and walk through the remarkable ruins of Pompeii -- widely considered by archaeologists to be the finest example of an ancient Roman town. With the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD 79, the excavated city was buried beneath tons of ash and lava. As you tour Pompeii on foot, passing baths, theatres, temples, markets, and the forum.
Time permitting visit a local cameo factory before your return to the ship.
Notes:
Traffic can be unpredictable. Your patience during delays is greatly appreciated. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. Tour requires a significant amount of walking. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses, wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Backpacks and large bags are not allowed inside the Pompeii excavation site. Be aware that lockers are not available at the entrance of the archaeological site. In Pompeii the guest will be dropped off and picked up in a parking area which is approximately 10-15 minutes walking from the entrance. Guests must be able to walk for 1.5 mile over uneven path and cobblestones. Pompeii is not wheelchair accessible.
