Finca San Ramon is a plantation specializing in tropical fruit. Chirimoya, avocado, mango, star fruit, guava and loquat all grow well in the excellent regional microclimate of La Herradura. Tour the plantation and taste some of the fruits grown here -- it's a fascinating glimpse of local agriculture.
In the nearby town of Almuñécar, you'll visit San Miguel Castle. This former Arab fortress occupies the spot that once was a Phoenician and Roman fortress. The building you see today was the retreat of the Nasrid-Dynasty Caliphs, but King Ferdinand built the moat, the drawbridge and the imposing front entrance with its four circular towers.
Walk with your guide through Almuñecar to get acquainted with this charming Mediterranean village and its narrow streets, local shops and tapas restaurants. Its melting-pot history ranges from Phoenician and Roman to Muslim and Christian.
