This definitive tour of Málaga showcases some important landmarks but also leaves free time for shopping and exploring in the Old Town, where Pablo Picasso was born.
Drive west along the coast to Málaga -- an Andalusian city with Moorish roots and an illustrious past.
Watch for numerous city landmarks en route to the imposing Gibralfaro Castle. Perched high atop a hill, it offers commanding views of the city, the bay and the mountains. You'll have time to walk the ramparts or immerse yourself in the city's turbulent history; the castle's museum is housed in a building once used to store gunpowder.
In the heart of the city, the limestone Cathedral of Málaga (1528) is built on the site of a former mosque. It's an iconic building, as is the nearby Picasso Museum, where the legendary artist was born in 1881.
An enlightening walk through the architecturally-rich city center brings you to a tapas lunch at a traditional Andalusian bar.
You'll have some free time to explore on your own before returning to the pier.
Notes:
This tour includes approximately 2 hours of moderate to strenuous walking. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Conservative clothing is required to enter the cathedral. Sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Bring local currency for incidentals.
