This definitive tour of Málaga showcases some important landmarks and leaves free time for shopping and exploring the Old Town, where Pablo Picasso was born.
Drive west along the coast to Málaga -- an Andalusian city with Moorish roots and an illustrious past.
Watch for numerous city landmarks en route to the imposing Gibralfaro Castle. Perched high atop a hill, it offers commanding views of the city, the bay, and the mountains. You’ll have time to walk the ramparts or immerse yourself in the city’s turbulent history; the castle’s museum is housed in a building once used to store gunpowder.
In the heart of the city, the limestone Cathedral of Málaga (1528) is built on the site of a former mosque. It’s an iconic building, as is the nearby Picasso Museum, where the legendary artist was born in 1881.
An enlightening walk through the architecturally rich city center brings you to a tapas lunch at a traditional Andalusian bar.
You’ll have some free time to explore on your own before returning to the pier.
Notes:
Tour requires approximately two hours of moderate to strenuous walking. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and capri-length pants are not allowed. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring local currency, as some vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
