Depart the Port of Messina and pass the Viale Boccetta and Immacolata Church.
You'll travel by way of the Tyrrhenian Coast with views of the Aeolian Islands. Your destination is Tindari, founded by the Greeks and later rebuilt by the ancient Romans. It is still a small town with a pleasant character. Highlights are the Greco-Roman theater, the Roman ruins, and the Santuario della Madonna Nera Church.
Take advantage of some free time for souvenir shopping before heading back to Messina.
Notes:
It is approximately a .25-mile uphill walk from the bus to the sanctuary, and from the sanctuary to the Roman ruins is also about .25-mile each way. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability before booking, as the walk is uphill, over unpaved walking tracks with steps. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
