On arrival in the historic Roman town of Chester, accompany your guide on a short walking tour through the city center. Chester boasts the most complete city wall in Britain, the largest former-Roman amphitheatre site, the oldest horse races, and the longest-running rowing regatta.
You'll stroll along the famous city walls that have protected this settlement since the Romans first founded their fortress here, and enter the city through one of the great gates of the town.
Walk past the Norman Cathedral (you may choose to go inside at the end of the walk if there are no services taking place). Throughout your walking tour, you will constantly encounter living history, from the Roman cobblestones under your feet to the myriad of genuine old black-and-white Tudor timber buildings on either side of you, some of which are original Tudor and some of which were built in the Victorian era.
After the walking tour, which lasts approximately 60 minutes, you will have free time to explore the many shops or cafés .
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
