The Mediterranean isle of Cyprus has a curiously divided personality. Located 174 miles east of Greece and 47 miles south of Turkey, Cyprus has long been shaped by both ancient cultures. Nowhere are these influences seen more clearly than in Cyprus's delicious cuisine.
Board your comfortable motorcoach for a scenic drive to the village of Lofou. Visit the village school and walk past the old olive mill, the local brewery and the local church before arriving at a taverna.
Mezze is a meal consisting of a selection of small plates of food (comparable to tapas). The dishes may be hot or cold, sweet or savory -- and they are all delicious.
Cypriot cuisine's Greek influence includes olives, hummus and seafood. Turkish influences include kebabs, lamb and sausages.
Native to Cyprus is Halloumi cheese, which originated here a thousand years ago and is the national cheese of Cyprus. Traditionally made with a mixture of goat and sheep milk, it has a firm texture, similar to mozzarella and can be served raw, fried or grilled. Local wines or beer complement this perfectly authentic experience.
A performance of traditional folk music will accompany the meal, showcasing many elements in common with Greek, Turkish and Arabian music.
