Start your tour by meeting your tour guide accessible van at the Lisbon cruise dock. From here, you will head out on a scenic drive through the heart of Lisbon. During this part of your tour, you will see the best and most cherished highlights of the city. You will experience the vibrant Baixa area which is the commercial and historic heart of the city. The area is peppered with Portugal’s unique “palombine” and neo-classical architecture, and bustling with people, pedestrianized streets, and trendy shops. You will also see Lisbon’s Lower Town, the unique Santa Justa Lift and of course the Rossio Square. Through the hands of an experienced guide, you will discover the historical streets, traditional shops, emblematic squares and churches, signs of a wealthy past that characterizes our main historical areas. Before saying goodbye to the historical downtown, you will have the chance to taste the famous “ginjinha”, Lisbon´s cherry liquor.
Your second stop will be at the Belém quartier, the home of the Portuguese discoveries period. Driving through Belem, you will see the Tagus River, the embarking point for Vasco de Gama’s great discoveries, the iconic Monument of Discoveries, 25th April Bridge, Palácio de São Bento which is the home to the Portuguese Parliament and the fortified Tower of Belem – Lisbon’s postcard landmark.
Your tour continues to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jerónimos Monastery. Here, you will visit Santa Maria, church of the Jeronimos, escorted by your tour guide who will be sharing the history of the Monastery and the fascinating architecture that resulted from Portugal’s immense wealth from international trading.
As you return to the city center of Lisbon, you will enjoy a drive along the River Tagus with a view of the April 25th Bridge, Christ the King statue, Praça do Comercio – the largest square in Europe - and the port of Lisbon.
