Surf’s up, and it’s your day to catch a glimpse of Iberia’s surfing lifestyle. Leave the bustling city behind -- the open road awaits, leading you to the picturesque coastal town of Carcavelos. This popular surf destination hosts the Portuguese Surf Championships, and it’s just a short drive from Lisbon.
On the beach, with the guidance of a skilled instructor, you’ll learn the basics of surfing. Gear up with a wetsuit, warm up with traditional exercises and games (cardio-respiratory and physical), learn the take-off technique (standing up on the board), safety rules, how to paddle your board, catching waves, sliding-standing and, finally, a good stretch.
Head to the water and hang ten with the locals, putting everything you’ve just learned into practice. Hopefully, you’ll be up on your surfboard in no time and riding the manageable waves on the beach.
Afterward, take a moment to relax on the beach. Then, return to Lisbon, passing the historical districts of Belem or Lisbon’s city center.
Notes:
Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled or altered by the operator in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable sea conditions. If the sea tide is not favorable to catching the waves, the lesson will be conducted at the beach, teaching the various maneuvers and positions in a very fun and relaxed way. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim/surf at your own risk. There are public showers at the beach and restrooms at the surf school. Participants can store belongings at the surf shop. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
