Take a short drive into Tunis, the Tunisian capital, with its impressive colonial-style boulevards and bustling medina (Old Town) -- the ancient heart of the city. Savor the markets’ sounds, sights and scents, haggle a little for a souvenir, and enjoy the atmosphere.
You’ll stop at the Bardo Museum, housed in the 19th-century Palace of the Beys. The Bardo Museum is famous for its outstanding collection of mosaics, significant finds from the Phoenician/Roman settlement at Carthage, and early Christian and Muslim relics. Take a guided tour of the most important displays, including the Virgil room, housing a spectacular Roman mosaic from Sousse.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and short skirts are not allowed. There are no elevators at the Bardo Museum. Most of the exhibits are on the second and third levels. A fee of €1 per camera is payable at the Bardo Museum. Tour does not operate on Mondays.
