Travel into the picturesque Solmissos Mountains to attend a special Catholic mass, including communion, at the Virgin Mary Shrine. This small shrine is surrounded by lush foliage and is dedicated to St Mary. It is situated where the ruins of the house believed to have been occupied by Jesus’ mother were first discovered. The shrine is cared for by the Lazarist Fathers.
Next, set out on a guided walk-through ancient Ephesus. The downhill walk through the ruins highlights the archeological finds along the way. You’ll see the beautifully preserved Hadrian’s Temple, the magnificent Trajan Fountain, the Odeon Theatre, the majestic Celsus Library and the Great Theatre. Back at the port, browse in the colorful bazaar and view an optional Turkish carpet-weaving demonstration.
Notes:
Although this tour is designed not to involve uphill walking, extensive walking is required. Terrain includes uneven and cobblestone surfaces, inclines, and many steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Expect dense crowding and congestion at each site. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent in July and August. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
