A guided walking tour through Ephesus, past its major sights, celebrates the historical significance of this ancient city.
Visit the House of the Virgin Mary, considered by the Vatican to be the final resting place of the mother of Jesus. Set in the Solmissos Mountains, the shrine is nestled among lush foliage, where a curative stream flows through the grounds.
Walk among the ruins of the Basilica of St John, built over the tomb of St John, where frescoes and mosaics remain and graceful columns hint at the structure's former grandeur.
Pass through the arched Magnesian Gate and begin a slow, downhill walk to the ruins of the Roman provincial capital, where your guide will highlight such pivotal sights as the Temple of Hadrian, the magnificent Trajan Fountain, the Odeon Theater, the beautiful Celsus Library and the dramatic Great Theatre.
Returning to Kusadasi, you can choose to shop in town, watch a optional Turkish carpet demonstration, or return to the ship.
Notes:
This excursion can be taken as a standalone tour but for the best experience should be combined with Istanbul Deluxe Part I & II -- an unforgettable combination and by far the best way to fully experience Turkey's great cities and the surrounding area. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. Expect dense crowding and congestion at the sites. Bring sunscreen and a hat, as shade is limited. Ancient Ephesus is not wheelchair accessible. Wear comfortable, non-skid walking shoes.
