Trieste is a classic Italian city with palaces, a grand canal and a magnificent seafront square. The largest of the Adriatic ports, is known for its culture and history but is also a favorite shopping destination. Discover the diversity of Trieste's center and visit the 19th-century Miramare Castle.
Walking with your guide through Trieste, you will see numerous landmarks -- from the Roman ruins to more modern establishments. Enjoy some additional free time on your own to explore its historic streets.
You will explore Miramare Castle -- a fairytale-like castle perched on a cliff above the sea. You will learn about Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Hapsburg, who commissioned the castle in the second half of the 19th century. The castle was to be a residence for himself and his wife, Charlotte. Take some time on your own to check out the lavish interior of this residence. Ornate decor and preserved original furnishings offer you a glimpse into the lives of the aristocracy.
Stroll through the amazing gardens and visit the little harbor, guarded by an enchanting sphinx.
Notes:
Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Bring your passport on tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes. There are some steps to negotiate at the castle.
