Venture into Slovenia's amazing and beautiful Karst region, rich with streams and geographic fissures, on this half-day tour. Travel by motor coach for a scenic, 75-minute drive to Predjama Castle in the Karst region. En route, you’ll travel through limestone hills dotted with vineyards, orchards and olive groves.
The Karst region features fast-flowing streams and limestone hills riddled with caves. It also offers a picturesque photo stop at Predjama Castle. This was a former hideout for the bold knight Erazem of Predjama, a 'robber baron' and the subject of a romantic and beautiful legend. The current fortress is a Renaissance castle begun in 1583, but evidence indicates that this steep and imposing cliff has been fortified since at least the 13th century.
Just a stone’s throw away is Postojna Cave. Here, you’ll board the cave train and travel deep into the heart of the cave on a 90-minute tour. Along the route, you’ll witness a number of chambers and galleries and view multicolored stalactites, stalagmites and other calcite formations.
Before returning to the pier, you’ll have some free time to explore the caves on foot.
Notes:
Extensive walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces required. Surfaces in Postojna Cave may be wet and slippery. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Constant temperature in the cave is around 8°C or 46°F. Dress warmly in layers, with a light waterproof jacket. The cave is very damp; the walking surface in is covered with an anti-slip material but you must wear comfortable, non-skid walking shoes. Bring a hat.
