Your tour begins as you board your motor coach for a scenic, 90-minute drive to Ljubljana. En route, you’ll travel through limestone hills dotted with vineyards, orchards and olive groves.
Upon arrival in Ljubljana, you’ll set out on a walking tour through the political, social and cultural capital of Slovenia. In 1511 and 1895, massive earthquakes struck Ljubljana. Today, this historic city center boasts an eclectic blend of Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture.
Your walking tour skirts the foot of Castle Hill and passes by the Town Hall, St Nicholas' Cathedral, Mestni Trg Square and Robba's Fountain, modeled after Bernini's Fountain of the Rivers in Rome's Piazza Navona.
Watch for the city's famous Triple Bridge, leading to the delights of the utterly exquisite Old Town. Continue to the most photographed bridge in Ljubljana—the Dragon Bridge (1901), built when Slovenia belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
A local restaurant welcomes you with a delicious Slovenian lunch and a glass of wine.
Continue to the open-air market. Designed by the legendary architect Joze Plecnik, in 1940, the market occupies a long colonnade along the river. Here, you’ll have free time to explore the stalls, shop for souvenirs, clothing and crafts, sip an espresso and admire the views of nearby Dragon Bridge.
Your tour concludes with a relaxing drive through the countryside back to the pier.
Notes:
Extensive walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces required. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring a hat.
Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
