Take a private boat from Korčula to Orebic with a scenic panoramic drive to the town of Ston on the far side.
Ston was built according to the plans approved by the Dubrovnik government in 1335 and amended in 1370. Even today, it is considered one of Europe's best-planned and best-structured cities. The encircling city wall of Ston was a massive architectural and construction feat. Originally seven kilometers long (22,900 feet or 4.4 miles), it consists of several parts -- the Ston city walls, the Mali Ston city walls, and the Big Wall with its three forts. Perhaps not surprisingly, finishing these complex defensive walls took almost four centuries. In the 21st century, they stand as a priceless monument of immense architectural and cultural value.
Your mission today is to hike the wall, starting in Ston and covering almost 2.5 miles (4 km) over demanding terrain. You'll climb more than 400 steps before reaching Mali Ston -- the oyster capital of Croatia.
In Mali Ston, board a local boat for a ride out to the oyster and mussel beds that dot the seascape. Learn about oyster and mussel production and taste deliciously briny, freshly prepared shellfish.
Return to Mali Ston for the motorcoach ride back to Orebic and the private boat back to Korčula.
