A German-speaking guide leads this tour (or a guide with a German interpreter). A limited number of German guides and interpreters are available in this port; book early to avoid disappointment. This is not a bilingual tour. Tours guided in English are available at www.hollandamerica.com.
A short drive away from Athinios port, you will visit Megalohori -- a typical Santorini town. Admire some beautiful examples of Cycladic architecture -- white cubic houses and countless churches with blue domes and distinctive bell towers. You will visit the most important Byzantine monument on Santorini -- the Orthodox Church of Panagia Episkopi.
Heading north towards the world-renowned village of Oia, learn more about the volcanic nature of this picturesque island. Oia is a charming city with distinctive blue roofs, old two-story mansions and narrow cobblestone streets. The shops sell handmade ceramics, paintings and semi-precious stones. You will enjoy some free time to explore Oia.
Returning to Thira town, take the cable car to descend to the Old Port on your own.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so and can use their cable car ticket to return to the ship at any time.
