It’s a 20-minute drive from the pier to the ruins of the Palace of Knossos -- the center of the elusive and mysterious Minoan civilization, which dates back more than 3,500 years.
Visit the palace that housed the religious and administrative leaders of the realm and, more astonishingly, the labyrinth beneath it, which supposedly contained the mythical Minotaur -- the half-bull, half-man creature to which King Minos’ queen gave birth. The king reputedly fed his enemies to this man-eating monster.
The palace complex was uncovered in 1900, and is now fully excavated and partially reconstructed to provide an excellent overview of the complex labyrinth system. You’ll view the king’s and queen’s living quarters, the storerooms, potters’ workshops and the theater.
