Transfer by coach to the Pile Gate at the entrance to the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
Your walking tour begins with a stroll along the Stradun -- the main street of Dubrovnik. Keep an eye out for the Dominican church and the 15th-century Rector's Palace, which used to be the seat of government for the once-independent Republic of Dubrovnik (abolished by Napoleon in 1808).
See the cathedral, built on the remains of its predecessor destroyed in 1667 by an earthquake, Sponza Palace, notable for its columned courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, the Church of Saint Blaise, and Onofriou's Fountain near the drawbridge and the Pile Gate.
Take a 10-minute walk to the lower cable car station to board the newly restored Dubrovnik Cable Car. Just a few minutes aboard this funicular will bring you to the top of Srdj Hill. The magnificent city of Dubrovnik nestles at the foot of the hill and is visible below. The original Dubrovnik Cable Car was built in 1969. It was a favorite among visitors and locals who wanted to enjoy a beautiful view of Dubrovnik's Old Town and the surrounding area. Before the war began in 1991, the cable car transferred more than 2.5 million people from the city to the top of Srdj Hill. The cable car was destroyed in the war and remained out of service until a recent total restoration. After a short orientation tour atop the hill, enjoy some free time to take in the majestic view.
The return cable car ride will bring you down to the starting point. It's a five-minute walk back to Pile Square for the motorcoach ride back to the ship.
Guests wishing to stay in the Old Town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
