See some of the legendary beauty of Sicily as you visit Mt Etna, driving south on the highway through vineyards, citrus groves, and villages. You will learn that Etna is a very active volcano -- the largest in Europe at 10,723 feet tall. It has erupted more than 130 times.
On the flanks of the volcano, enjoy the panoramic view of the city of Catania, overwhelmed by an eruption 300 years ago, and walk around Crateri Silvestri, created by the lava flow of the 1983 eruption. These small craters are set amid bare fields of gray lava that stretch for miles.
Continue down the mountain through lemon groves and chestnut and pine forests, which blend with the hardened lava and endless volcanic cones.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Due to the high elevation, bring a light jacket or sweater and sunscreen. Tour operates weather permitting.
