Set out with a small group (maximum 22 privileged guests) and your guide on an extended walk through fascinating Cartagena -- a UNESCO World Heritage site city.
The Center of Cartagena History is situated in the Tower of Homage -- one of the few buildings that remain from the Castle of Conception. Here, modern technology paints a vivid picture as you journey through the different civilizations that have thrived here. Take in panoramic views over the city and over the site of the Roman theatre, discovered by chance in 1897.
Step inside the Punic Wall Interpretation Center, which protects the remains of the wall once used to defend Cartagena. An informative audio-visual presentation highlights the Punic Wars. In the 16th-century crypt, you'll see the now-faint frescoes of Death -- the Great Leveler -- dancing on the Papal Crown.
See the decumano -- ancient Roman roads that run east-west -- and the primary thoroughfare lined with the remains of thermal baths and shops. You'll also visit the ruins of the Roman theatre.
Enjoy some progressive snacking at three different tapas bars. The chef at each has prepared traditional delicacies accompanied by a glass of sangria, wine or a soft drink . Try some Asian coffee before heading back to the ship.
Notes:
Tour requires 4.5 to five hours of walking/standing. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
