This accessible Cartagena shore excursion introduces you to some intriguing history, including the impressive Roman Theatre, the historical Christmas Fort, the Punic Wall archaeological site, and some leisure time for shopping on your own.
Meet your knowledgeable guide and accessible van and head out to the Punic Wall of Cartagena, dating to the 3rd century BC. This archaeological site includes a museum, catacombs, and a small movie cinema, where you'll encounter firsthand the Punic Wars between the Carthaginians and the Romans.
Take photos of the iconic Castillo de la Concepcion, a hilltop castle from the Middle Ages.
Visit the ancient Roman theatre, built between 5 BC and 1 BC. Its museum includes underground hallways, and many pieces found during the excavations. The theatre itself is one of the largest in Roman Hispania, with a capacity to seat 7,000.
Enjoy some free time for shopping on the main street.
En route back to the port, view the exterior of the Christmas Fort — a symbol of the defensive system of Cartagena on the city's picturesque coastline.
