Board an air-conditioned coach and take the scenic coastal route to the town of Trani, known as "the slow town" because of its laid-back charm and easy-going manner.
Your guide will accompany you to the lovely Trani Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim and certainly one of the most magnificent churches in Italy. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, this Romantique church sits right at the water's edge. Step through the doorway adorned with 800-year-old stone carvings and visith the crypt dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim.
A stroll through Trani's Old Town is a great way to acquaint yourself with the white-washed buildings that curve around the little fishing harbor's scenic bay. And don't miss the well-preserved Swabian Castle that dates back to 1249, considered one of the most sophisticated secular buildings of the Middle Ages. Enjoy some free time to wander along the cobblestone streets, watch the boats unload their daily catch, visit a gelateria or sit at a charming café with a cup of espresso (at your own expense).
Notes:
Tour requires extensive walking over uneven surfaces and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring a hat. Inside church visit(s) may not be possible if religious services are being held. Guests sometimes have the chance to visit churches independently, quietly and reverently, but guides are not allowed to enter and talk during services. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts are not allowed. Shops in Trani are closed on Sundays and on Monday mornings. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
