Board an air-conditioned coach and take the scenic coastal route to Trani, known as "the slow town" because of its laid-back charm and easy-going manner.
Your guide will accompany you to the lovely Trani Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim and certainly one of the most magnificent churches in Italy. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, this Romanesque church sits right at the water's edge. Step through the doorway adorned with 800-year-old stone carvings and visit the crypt dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim.
A stroll through Trani's Old Town is a great way to acquaint yourself with the whitewashed buildings that curve around the little fishing harbor's scenic bay. And don't miss the well-preserved Swabian Castle that dates to 1249.
The nearby town of Bisceglie perches on the Adriatic Sea and is renowned for its high-quality olive oil. Tour a pressing facility and learn how the Phoenicians and the Greeks brought olives to the area in the 8th century BC -- good for them! Discover how olives are harvested and the oil extracted; then, you'll have the opportunity to sample this golden elixir before returning to the ship in Bari.
